Photo Of The Day: 09/05/2011 "Amerigo Vespucci"
Their motto is "Non chi quel che ma comincia perseveres." In other words, "not the beginning if you persevere." How true, and appropriate for this beautiful ship built in 1930. The Amerigo Vespucci, is the training ship of the Italian navy. In turn, the ship is active, the oldest Marine there. Born Design Genius Naval Lieutenant Colonel Francesco Rotundia, was launched on February 22, 1931. After many miles of sea slamming his helmet in 2007, this veteran of the ocean took part in the Tall Ship's Race. The beautiful boat was named after the Florentine navigator, considered the first to determine that the lands discovered by Christopher Columbus belonged to a new continent. The New World was called America in his honor.
With 80 years on their sticks, we can still enjoy its presence in many Mediterranean ports. This photo was taken in summer 2010 in the Costa Brava. I would love to become an octogenarian and stay in as good shape as the Amerigo. It would be exciting to their sails, polished wood of the deck and bulkheads of the cabins could talk, to tell any of the countless stories that have lived on board. Looking back, it's easy to evoke the saga of "Pirates of the Caribbean" and Johnny Depp imagine the race, jumping to the top of the jib gift. From bow to stern, fleeing the Kraken or other malevolent creatures two or more legs. While flying over the imagination, I would be content to take a ride on a wonderful boat.
