Web Statistics for the Dense (part 2: Referrers)
Do you know how to use contacts to increase traffic? How to increase conversions? This is the second article of our series to learn how to analyze and understand the statistics of your website. The goal of this series is to help increase revenue from your site.
On one side was using sales statistics to improve your web business (a part can be found here: # http://www.redcarpetweb.com/promotion/0509.html function). The second part is about how to use the referrer statistics to increase your traffic, ranking, and conversions.
Part 2: Referrers
A referrer is a website that directly sends you traffic. Most traffic is referred by search engines, but other sites send traffic as well. These reference sites will help you increase your position in search engines because by linking to you, are essentially "voting" for your site. The search engines take these "votes", and count towards how popular your site. The most popular site, the higher the rank on a search site. Of course it is not so simple, content actually plays a more important role, but everything should be taken into consideration when you are fighting for your hard-earned placement within search engines.
The domains of origin
So, to return to our main point: How can you use reference sites to help you make more money? Simple. Looking at the statistics and find out who is linking to you, you can see trends or patterns and capitalize on the strengths of your site. For example, if you sell real estate, which connects to you? Local Businesses? Government sites? Other real estate sites? And 'only sites have exchanged links with us, or are a nice amount of unexpected sites that link to you?
If you do not have many sites linking to you, perhaps you should consider the publication of information most useful to your site. Try and make your site useful for those who want to know your industry (not just potential customers), writing new pages of information. This will do two things:
1. Potential customers can discover your field without leaving your site, increasing the professionalism of your site and utility.
2. Other sites in your industry will start to see your site as a useful resource for the connection. You can become a leader in sharing information about the online sector.
This can only lead to more links, more traffic, people and ultimately, more to talk about your site.
Exchanging links is a good idea too, but should only be done if the site is appropriate link. Do not link to sites that are unprofessional, or sites that are just a collection of links (link farms), but will make your site losing its authority.
Finally, there are directories. Directory as http://www.dmoz.org will connect to you if you have a good useful content to your site. Even if people do not really look for your site to these directories the links from them tend to spread throughout your website. Take your time and read the instructions carefully before submitting directory. If you hit them at random, will simply ignore.
Search Engine Referrers
Looking at the statistics of your site, you can find out which search engines are sending you the most traffic. Usually the search engines that appear in statistics are Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask Jeeves. Find out with search engine sends the most traffic, then take a look at what phrases the surfers use to find you. These sentences will tell you what your customers are looking for.
For example, here at Red Carpet Web Promotion, we have a lot of research for carpets. Obviously do not want or need this traffic, but because of our name can not be avoided. For us, it is important to keep track of this traffic "carpet", because it distorts our numbers. If traffic doubles one month, is that because our position as a "carpet" is gone, or is it our position for "web promotion" went up? It 's important for us to understand, because if our position for "web promotion" went up, but we had more sales, we would need to update our website to convert those prospects into paying customers.
To verify the phrases that people will come up with, it is better to understand why people are coming to your site. If you are a plumber and most people find themselves with the "sump pumps" keyword phrase, you'd better make sure that your site or section of the site that are coming up, offers them sump pumps! Similarly, if you come from a site that references it as a great man deep and repair, to ensure that this section of your site promotes your deep knowledge and repair.
Conclusion
Look at the statistics regularly, see where the traffic is coming, and make sure the site is aimed at those people. If you are coming looking for sump pumps and sump pumps can not be sold, or start to sell, or sell something of value to these people. If you offer the product that these people are trying, but they are not buying, to understand why. It 's the price? And 'the shopping cart too complicated? Do not people see the link "Buy a sump pump Here"? Understand it and solve it quickly, because the Internet is so volatile that the "sump pump" traffic might be gone next week, and it would be easy to lose the jackpot .......
