Psychodiagnostic in adoption proceedings

In the adoption process requires the completion of a psychodiagnostic applicants who will become, eventually, the parents of the child who will join the family.

In a psychodiagnostic process must not be lost sight of what is the horizon of the study that was requested and, in recognition of this, both the final conclusions of the evaluation and the choice of techniques of psychological examination administered along the same must be consistent with its purpose.

As in a psychodiagnostic to assess the existence of psychic damage and the degree of disability determined by a mental disorder, the emphasis is on a psychopathological diagnosis, in the case of a trial designed to psychodiagnostic making emphasis will be placed in all those elements capable of demonstrating the ability of members of the couple to include a third home, the third token in the psyche of each of the parental partners.

This does not mean you can overlook the clinical evaluation regarding the existence of psychic pathology of importance in future parents, as eg. psychotic disorders, disorders related to substance abuse, etc.. an obstacle to be reported if detected. It means that the topic is the focus adoptive assessment once the mental condition has been properly discarded.

So projective techniques such as HTP, very useful in the evaluation and the objectification of anxiety disorders in the psychodiagnostic aimed at diagnosing disease, can and should be evaluated according to what is sought to know in an adoption. This means moving away from a useless mechanical evaluation of a projective technique to perform a task in which traditional first consider what the purpose of the assessment to not overlook what is really important and saturate the conclusions with unnecessary details that will never be of use to anyone.

The aim is to know something of the members of this couple, their desires, their ability to interact among themselves and with others. If the findings of a psychodiagnostic data are lost in irrelevant details and fails to describe something about the place that exists for the child to be adopted in the psyche of those who are waiting, the task will have failed even if the work is accurate and comprehensive .

Indicators such as doors and windows, appropriate branches in the tree, arms outstretched, and so on. are more important than stopping to assess any signs of anxiety or pressure strokes of the pen on paper. The Test of Two Persons, Family or Family Kinetica, current and / or prospective, will serve to support the conclusions that refer to an appropriate dynamic partner link and a symbolic space for the newest member of the family.
